From July 27 to 30, 2024, Tahiti will host the surfing events (women’s and men’s shortboard) on the legendary Teahupo’o spot. From July 27 to 30, 2024, Tahiti will host the surfing events (women’s and men’s shortboard) on the legendary Teahupo’o spot.

Teahupo’o: A mythical place

Located on the Tahitian peninsula, Teahupo’o is world-famous for its spectacular wave in the Hava’e pass. This village on Tahiti’s southwest coast has retained all its authenticity, with lush nature, magnificent coral reefs, black sand beaches and impressive waves. The wild beauty of the lagoon and the powerful energy of the Teahupo’o wave attract surf enthusiasts from all over the world. As well as surfing, visitors can spot dolphins or, during the July to November season, humpback whales.

Surfing events

Over three days, 24 male and 24 female surfers compete for medals. The series kicks off on July 27 with three rounds of eight heats for both men and women. The quarter-finals, semi-finals and finals take place on July 30, starting at 7am (local time) for broadcast in France from 7pm.

Athletes’ welcome and Fan Zone

To accommodate athletes and spectators, various infrastructure and safety works are being carried out. The Teahupo’o village will be equipped with controlled access, and giant screens will be available to follow the event in its entirety.

A Fan Zone will be set up on the PK0 beach at Teahupo’o, open from 6.30am to 5pm, from July 27 to August 5, 2024. This area will be accessible only to holders of access cards obtained by drawing lots. Due to the lack of space at the competition venue, the organizing committee chose this system to give everyone the chance to attend the event up close. An online ticketing service allows you to register for the opening days of the Teahupo’o Fan Zone.

To share in the excitement of the event, two additional Fan Zones will be set up: one at Parc d’Atimaono in Papara from July 26 to 30, and the other at Paofa’i in Papeete from July 31 to August 4. Every day, visitors, locals, athlete supporters and local residents will be able to share in the excitement of the surfing events.

A giant screen will broadcast the events live, and there will be plenty of entertainment, fun workshops and sporting and cultural activities open to all, free of charge. You’ll also find an official store, a number of craft stalls, as well as food and refreshments at the mini local market.

Practical information

Airport: All international flights land at Tahiti – Faa’a International Airport (PPT), close to Papeete. This airport is also the departure point for domestic flights to other islands and atolls, operated by Air Tahiti and Air Moana.
