The Tuamotu Islands are an archipelago of atolls, flat islands surrounded by crystal-clear lagoons and coral reefs. Here, everything is calm and natural. No major roads, no buildings, just the ocean, sand, and sky. Each atoll offers a unique setting, ideal for lovers of nature and tranquility.

If you dream of swimming with dolphins, head to Rangiroa and its famous Tiputa Pass. For the more adventurous, Makatea awaits you with its vertiginous cliffs and freshwater caves. If you’re looking for thrills, dive among sharks in South Fakarava, or take a luxury break in Tikehau for a peaceful stay in an idyllic setting.

These islands are a real playground for adventurers, nature lovers, and those seeking a little peace away from the hustle and bustle.

Are you ready? Then follow me, and let yourself be carried away.

In Rangiroa, marine life reigns supreme. And its crown jewel is the Tiputa Pass. This natural passage between the ocean and the lagoon is one of the world’s most famous spots for encountering dolphins. And not just observing them from a boat. Here, you can dive with them. Watch them emerge from the depths, twirl around you, and play with the currents like mischievous children.

Rays, turtles, sharks, schools of fish… The pass is teeming with life. Whether snorkeling or scuba diving, you’ll be right in the middle of the action.

• Introductory or refresher dive: 14,000 CFP (approx. US$27)

After the excitement of diving, head over for a drink at Relais de Joséphine, right on the edge of the pass. On the large wooden terrace, dolphins dance on the horizon while you enjoy a fresh mango juice or a local dish.

Makatea reveals itself to adventurers. The journey is long, but well worth the effort. This unique atoll, perched on a phosphate base, is a geological treasure. White limestone cliffs rise up amid lush vegetation, and it is here that climbing becomes a true adventure.

Since 2019, enthusiasts have mapped out more than 100 routes, some reaching up to 50 meters. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced climber, you’ll find a natural, raw, immersive playground here. And between climbs, slip into a freshwater cave to cool off.

Fakarava, a UNESCO biosphere reserve, is an underwater sanctuary. And the southern pass, Tumakohua, is nicknamed the “shark wall.” Here, the calm currents bring together hundreds of gray sharks, blacktip sharks, whitetip sharks… in astonishing harmony.

The site is accessible after a two-hour boat ride from the northern airport. But this crossing is part of the experience. A timeless adventure.
