Precipitation: guaranteed sunshine

July and August are among the driest months of the year in Tahiti.

  • Rainy days: The risk of rainy days is very low, with an average of 5 to 7 rainy days in July and about 4 days in August.

  • Rainfall amount: Precipitation is minimal, around 65-70 mm (2.5-2.8 inches) in July and 44-71 mm (1.7-2.8 inches) in August. If showers do occur, they are usually short and refreshing.

This period is therefore perfect for fully enjoying beaches, hikes, and excursions.

Humidity: more pleasant air

Relative humidity is significantly lower during these months compared to the wet season. This translates into increased comfort, making island exploration more enjoyable and less oppressive.

Sea temperature: an invitation to dive

The waters of the lagoon and the Pacific Ocean remain warm and inviting.

  • The average water temperature ranges between 26°C and 27°C (79-80°F) in July and August, ideal conditions for swimming, snorkeling, or scuba diving. Underwater visibility is also excellent during this season.

Wind and sunshine: gentle breeze and blue skies

  • Wind: A moderate breeze is generally present, providing welcome refreshment, especially thanks to the southeastern trade winds that blow during this season. The average wind speed is about 12 to 13 mph (19 to 21 km/h).

  • Sunshine: Tahiti enjoys generous sunshine, with an average of 8 to 11 hours of sun per day. While some clouds may be present, they generally do not affect the amount of sunshine you will receive.

Cyclone risk: off-season

The risk of tropical cyclones is extremely low in July and August, as the hurricane season is typically between December and April.

In summary:

July and August are exceptional months to discover Tahiti. The dry and temperate climate, combined with warm waters and abundant sunshine, makes it an ideal time for all kinds of activities, whether relaxing on white sand beaches, exploring colorful marine life, or participating in iconic cultural festivals.
