Tahiti

Our main island, the largest, with a surface area of 1,042 km2, home to 80% of French Polynesia’s total population, and finally the most majestic, with its imposing stature and its highest point, Mount Orohena, perched at 2,241 meters above sea level.

Tahiti was discovered in 1767 by navigator Samuel Wallis. 255 years later, Tahiti’s lush, omnipresent vegetation is as striking as ever. For example, the coast, even the urbanized coastline around Papeete, has nothing to do with coastlines dotted with buildings! That’s why it’s a shame to reduce Tahiti to the image of a hectic capital island, a place where things get hectic, a place for shopping.
