In Tahiti, every Chinese New Year is an invitation to explore a unique facet of culture. Here, colorful lions and dragons dance to the rhythm of gongs, carrying everyone into a story filled with legends. Kites soar, songs echo, and the enchanting flavors of Chinese dishes awaken the senses.
In Tahiti, where a significant Chinese community resides, the festivities reach their peak, especially in Papeete and at the Kanti Chinese Temple in Mamao.
A RICH PROGRAM IN PAPEETE
In the streets of Papeete, dragons slither, lanterns light up, and the city comes alive. I love seeing these scenes where culture expresses itself in all its splendor. The official opening at the Town Hall marks the beginning of the celebration. Later, calligraphy workshops and martial arts demonstrations provide a full immersion into this world. The lantern walk, in the evening, illuminates the city with a special kind of softness.
The traditions at the Kanti Temple in Mamao.
At the Kanti Temple, the atmosphere is just as festive. A grand ball is held at a local restaurant, where Miss Dragon is crowned, symbolizing the celebration. Traditional dances and moments of sharing conclude this day, filled with culture and camaraderie.
Come experience the Chinese New Year in Tahiti, a vibrant and colorful event that blends ancient traditions with modernity in a truly unique atmosphere.
